Our organization is located in a 4050 Sq. Ft. building that was purchased in January 1994. Since then, members have been building the HO Scale layout of the Gratiot Valley Railroad, a fictitious rural/urban industrialized representation of the 1940's thru 1950's steam to diesel transition period of railroading in the USA, centered on the Great Lakes region.
One of the many enjoyable experiences in the model railroad hobby is the
development of an operating layout, which can run from purely whimsical to very
prototypical, almost a virtual re-creation (in scale) with every rock and bush
depicted from real life. The Gratiot Valley layout is a free lanced depiction
of Southern Michigan (with a few high mountains thrown in for visual effect)
set in the Steam to Diesel transition era (1940 -1955). In our scenic
scheme, we enjoy modeling a number of humorous situations scattered through-out
the layout. Visitors are invited to see if they can point them all out.
