EDUCATION IS OUR PURPOSE;
HAVING FUN ALONG THE WAY IS A BONUS

At the Gratiot Valley Railroad Club we have an extensive collection of both model and prototype railroad magazines, books, and videos, available as reference material in our library for members use and enjoyment.

In addition to the "HOW-TO CLINICS" given at our Show and Sales events, we present both formal and informal clinics on many modeling and prototype railroad related subjects for members and guests at our regular scheduled meeting nights. We also provide presentations on the fun, art and techniques of model railroading at Libraries and other venues for public education.

We sponsor presentations on public railway safety given by 'Operation Lifesaver' trained volunteers. These dedicated volunteers give freely of their time to educate the public to the dangers of ignoring safety warnings and common sense around railway right-of-way and equipment.

We work with area Boy Scout Troops, providing 1 day educational workshops as well as testing and certification for Railroading Merit badges. Some of our members are registered scout leaders, while a number of other members are certified for working with youth.

We recently completed working with Wolfe middle school of Center Line on a project composed of student teams drawn from the Art and Tech classes as well as the Latch Key program. These student teams built display modules having to do with historical living and transportation which were on display during a recent Show and Sale. We are always looking for new projects where we can expand the world of model railroading and promote railroad safety.

While our members have a wealth of knowledge and experience, we are always looking for others to both share with and learn from. If you would like to have fun and share your knowledge or simply learn more about our club, give us a call at 586-468-4877.
